Marijuana Possession, Child Endangerment Charges May Await Moreno Valley Man

A Moreno Valley man was badly burned after his alleged marijuana-growing operation caught fire on Oct. 31.

According to the Murrieta Patch, police were called to Walker Terrace Apartments in the 13200 block of Heacock Avenue just before 1 a.m.

Police have described what happened as an "explosion" at a "concentrated marijuana lab."

Police have not released further details about the incident. However, many marijuana growing operations use high-intensity lights to mimic abundant sunshine. It is possible that the explosion or fire in this situation resulted from a flaw with the lighting (if the man did indeed have a marijuana growing operation, which hasn't been proven yet).

The man was said to have sustained burns all over his body. He was taken to a local hospital, where he is said to be in stable condition.

Authorities have said they believe that there were children in the apartment, so they are considering child endangerment charges against the man, as well as charges related to marijuana possession and marijuana cultivation. They have indicated that they may wait to formally charge him until his recuperation is further along.
